Gold Coast Transport

Most areas of the Gold Coast are accessible by the wide-spread public transport system.A rail link and Pacific Motorway connects Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Bus and train links are available frequently throughout the day with extra services running over busy holiday periods.

The region is served by Gold Coast International Airport, with frequent domestic services from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart, and International services from New Zealand, Japan and Asia. Brisbane's International Airport also provides links with the USA and Europe.

Gold Coast City is a dynamic city with a wide variety of built and natural attractions which include over 70 kilometres of beaches with an average water temperature that sits at approximately 22 degrees. The central areas feature major shopping centres as well as a number of exclusive boutiques, specialty shops and craft markets. In contrast to it's glitzy nightlife the Gold Coast also has a beautiful rural hinterland stretching to west and north of the Gold Coast city centre with a number of natural wetlands and nature trails. The sub-tropical climate also means that the hinterland's tropical rainforest flourishes and is abundant with wildlife.

Gold Coast History

The modern City of the Gold Coast is surrounded to the east by the sea, stretches from Beenleigh in the north, then south to the New South Wales border and west to the coastal mountains. Before European settlement, the Gold Coast and hinterland was a natural area of timbered mountains and hills, river valleys, floodplain, salt and freshwater wetlands. Low sand hills and long white beaches marked the place where the land finally met the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
